Participatory Photography in Prisons

RUIDO Photo has been carrying out projects of participatory photography in prisons of Catalonia since 2005, in a pioneering initiative in Spain. With this project, inmates create their own photographic and audiovisual projects which are executed under the supervisions of a photographer. Within the 10 years of doing this, there have been hundreds of photographs taken, ranging from self portraits to landscapes of the prison itself to a short documentary and even a long one.

The population of immigrants in the prisons are high. In some prisons, 85 percent of the inmates are from a foreign origin.
